A young family landed up in hospital after suffering chemical burns, partial blindness and other infections brought on by their “holiday from hell” in Egypt.
Laura Sandeman and her family, from Dundee, are still receiving medical treatment more than two months after returning in agony from the Sharm El Sheikh resort and spa in August.
Laura (31), of Wentworth Crescent, temporarily lost 30% of her vision in her left eye due to “pink eye” conjunctivitis caused by the adenovirus, which her doctor described as “the worst he had seen” in years.
She also received chemical burns after swimming in the pool at the five-star Savita Hotel and contracted a chest infection and was struck down by the clostridium difficile bug due to, they claim, poor hygiene and “filthy” conditions at the hotel.
In addition, husband John and children Brandon (12), Chloe (10) and four-year-old Georgia were also struck down by a collection of serious infections.
Her mum, Marlyn Doyle (59), was also in agony after contracting the helicobactor pylori bug at the resort.
The family are now taking legal advice to try to get their money back from tour operators Thomas Cook and are also claiming compensation.
A spokesman for the Thomas Cook brand Hotels4U.com said: “We’re naturally concerned to hear of Mrs Sandeman’s experience and we’re undertaking a full and detailed investigation.”
The company said a very small number of illness cases about 1% were reported during the family’s stay.See the full story in Saturday’s Courier
