George Young was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after being found guilty of three charges of indecency against the children. The offences occurred during the 1970s and 1980s. It emerged after the trial in August that the 66-year-old had previous convictions for sexual offences. Judge Rita Rae QC told him: ”The abuse of children is one of the most serious that can come before a court. This was a gross breach of trust.” She also said it was clear the crimes had a ”considerable impact” on the victims. Ex-quarry worker Young had claimed during his trial the allegations were ”all lies.” He was told he was named as the culprit for the abuse, but he replied: ”It will be Norman my brother as we both look alike.” Young claimed that in 2005 his dying sibling had told him he had used his name when he was ”mucking about” with the children.
