Thieves who stole two flat screen televisions from a children’s ward at Ninewells Hospital have been condemned.
The Alba 16-inch TVs were taken from a cupboard in the Ronald McDonald Suite between midnight on Sunday and 11am Monday. They were due to be displayed in private rooms for sick children.
Charlie Kean’s Children’s Fund donated the TVs, along with a new washing machine and tumble dryer and also refurbished the ward’s family room.
He hit out at the thieves, saying there were security problems, including a relative “walking straight out” with a Sony Playstation.
He intended to visit the ward to see what is needed before going shopping for new TVs.
“I’m also going to check the security while I’m up there,” he added. “We’ve started putting barcodes on things so that it sets off an alarm when you try to walk out the doors with them.
“It’s awful you have to do that in the first place. If one person takes something then all the children suffer.”
Ninewells site manager Brian Main said, “Many people give generously to our children’s hospital and it is very sad that someone would stoop so low as to steal TVs which were clearly for the benefit of sick children and their families.”
