Four people were injured when a bus driver was forced to slam on the brakes when a jaywalker stepped out in front of her vehicle in Commercial Street.
One woman was taken to hospital, while witnesses said other passengers had also taken bumps as they “flew through the air” on the slow-moving Stagecoach service on Wednesday night.
Passenger David Kett, of Kirriemuir, praised the driver of the bus as a “credit to the company.”
“The driver was superb and highly professional throughout,” he said. “This bus didn’t have seatbelts and I was horrified to see the injuries resulting at just five miles per hour.
“I have never worn a seatbelt on a bus before but I will from now on whenever possible and I urge others to do likewise.
“To see the other passengers flying through the air without there even being an impact at such a low speed was terrible.”
He branded the person responsible — who went on his way after causing the bus to come to a sudden stop — an “idiot.”
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said four casualties had been reported and that one woman was taken to hospital with a knee injury.
Police confirmed they had attended the incident and had spoken to the bus driver and witnesses.
