The merged Dundee and Angus College will carry that name and formally come into being on November 1.
The Tayside Partnership Board has approved the new name.
Principal designate Christina Potter said: “I am confident of achieving our aim of enhancing and extending learning opportunities for the people of Dundee and Angus.
“We have decided on the new name, keeping it concise and to the point, Dundee and Angus College describes who we are and who we are aiming to serve.”
With economies of scale and more efficient support systems in place, the new college plans to save about £3 million in the two years after its launch.
The savings will allow maximum funding to be targeted towards learning and teaching and supporting students.
