Touring car champion Gordon Shedden looks for home comforts at Knockhill
ByMichael Alexander
The reigning champion will get some help from his home crowd this weekend as the British Touring Car Championship makes its annual visit to Knockhill.
Gordon Shedden has followed the championship for most of his life and is based just a few miles from the Fife circuit. Shedden watched as a teenage fan when fellow countryman John Cleland drove to his second BTCC title back in 1995.
Now 18 years on, Honda racer Shedden returns as the county’s first champion since.
“It’s going to be a great event and I can’t wait,” said Shedden.
“I love racing in front of my own fans and it’s nice to give them a Scottish champion to support.”
Shedden has won three times at Knockhill previously and the 34-year-old will be joined by fellow countryman Kieran Gallagher.
Three BTCC races will take place on Sunday. Advance race day tickets are £27. Children 16 and under go free if accompanied by an advance paying adult.
Admission includes access to Sunday’s autograph session with the drivers in the pit lane as well as free parking.
