To have your name on the Open Championship leaderboard at the Old Course, St Andrews, is a dream sadly never accomplished by most golfers.
However, a local businessman was given the next best thing this week when his birthday was memorably celebrated beside the first fairway.
Texas-born Jack Willoughby, who runs the Dunvegan Hotel in the town’s Pilmour Place alongside his wife Sheena, was left stunned when his 60th birthday was highlighted in bold letters at the famous course.
“I was totally surprised, shocked and humbled. People can do this sort of thing using computers but that was the real thing,” he said.
The unique celebration was organised by a friend of Jack and Sheena who works at the R&A.
Preparations for the 150th Open Championship are well under way with the more familiar names, such as Woods T, set to take their place on the leaderboard next Thursday when the Open tees off.
