It’s a question that has intrigued children and their families for 25 years “Spout, handle, lid of metal, what’s inside the Singing Kettle?”
Now, it seems, fans of the children’s entertainment group are desperate to find out the answer for themselves with a rare opportunity to own one of the original props.
When show founder Artie Trezise put one of the group’s iconic big blue Singing Kettles up on eBay with a 99p start price on Sunday afternoon, he could not have foreseen that the bids would be sitting at £1700 with nearly a week still to go.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Artie told The Courier. “I put one of the Big Singing Kettles up on eBay with a 99p start. I thought it’ll be interesting to see how much it goes for. Probably less than it cost around 25 years ago.
“It would make a great toy box as it’s 78cm high to the top of the handle.
“I couldn’t believe it. It quickly went ballistic. My phone kept ringing with all the bids going through.
“Within 20 minutes it was up to £600 and as we speak it’s around £1700.”
The Singing Kettle bowed out of performing in Fife with a final performance at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline on January 3.
