A public meeting to discuss Tesco’s withdrawal from Kirkcaldy is to be staged on Monday.
It is anticipated there will be standing room only at the meeting, which is expected to start at 6pm in Kirkcaldy Town House.
The town is still reeling from the news Tesco will close its Hunter Street store, with the loss of 189 jobs.
The closure has also thrown into doubt the future of the town centre’s post office.
Fife Council’s depute leader, Lesley Laird, said: “The council is working as hard as possible to make the case for Kirkcaldy, understand what the issues facing Tesco are and get the right people round the table to talk about how the issues could potentially be addressed.
“It’s difficult to understand the reasoning and rationale behind Tesco’s decision until we get more information from them.”
Along with council leader David Ross, she will meet Tesco privately on Monday ahead of the public meeting “and will continue to do everything we can to fight the case to keep this essential superstore in the town”.
