A teenager who drove down a Fife street with his friend hanging “half in, half out” of the driver’s window has been banned from the road for a year.
Shocked police watched Jamie Wilson drive down St Catherine Street in Cupar after pulling Paul Eddie halfway into the vehicle last August.
A sheriff lambasted the 18-year-old, who the court heard will lose his job as a result of the incident, telling him he was “completely unfit” to hold a driving licence.
Depute fiscal Kirsten Thomson told Dundee Sheriff Court: “Mr Eddie came to speak to the accused through the driver’s window and he leaned out, grabbed him and pulled him through the window.
“His upper body was partially in the car and the accused thereafter drove off with Mr Eddie half in and half out of the car.”
She continued: “His feet were intermittently hitting the ground whilst this was happening.”
Lynsay Magro, defending, said: “He (Wilson) is employed as an apprentice joiner with his father’s company. He will lose his job if he loses his licence. “This was an agreement between them, albeit an absolutely ridiculous one.”
Wilson, of School Brae, Letham, admitted driving carelessly on August 19.
Sheriff Alistair Brown banned Wilson from driving for a year, ordered him to resit his driving test, and imposed 100 hours of unpaid work.
