The recently-selected rector of St Andrews University has given a presentation to St Andrews Community Council.
MEP Catherine Stihler, who was St Andrews University Student Association president 20 years ago, was selected as the university’s rector in October.
Speaking to The Courier ahead of Monday night’s meeting, the Labour European Parliament member said: “I was delighted to accept the chance to address the community council and look forward to the opportunity for us to get to know each other.
“I hope to raise the issue of the poor quality of the private rented sector in the town and in particular, the dampness of buildings, which has a direct impact on student health.
“It will be interesting to hear what issues members of the community council raise and I am sure there will be many subjects on which we will share a common agenda.”
In the afternoon, Ms Stihler was joined at the university for the first of her Inspirer talks series.
