The first of four anti-austerity meetings has taken place to try to avert big council budget cuts.
The meeting held on Monday night at Cupar YMCA was organised by independent Fife councillors Bryan Poole and Willie Clarke, who will be holding similar meetings on Tuesday at the Benarty Community Centre, Ballingry, Wednesday at Kirkland High School, Methil and on Thursday at Dalgety Primary School, Dalgety Bay.
The meetings run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
Billing the meetings as There is Another Way, Mr Poole has invited Fifers to attend and to have an “open and honest discussion” about Fife Council’s need to plug a £77 million budget black hole.
Mr Poole has said Scotland’s council tax freeze should end as a matter of urgency if many of the planned multi-million-pound cuts at council level are to be avoided.
Councillors Poole and Clarke say they have had enough of the “pretence” of the annual budget setting meetings in councils across Scotland.
