Firefighters tackling a massive blaze at a Fife vegetable processing factory were finally stood down late on Saturday.
The fire at Kettle Produce’s Orkie Farm plant, near Freuchie, broke out shortly after 6am on Friday.
At its height, 50 firefighters from across the region were involved in battling the flames, and a thick plume of black smoke could be seen from miles around.
Smoke could still be seen billowing out of the plant part of which has been completely destroyed on Saturday afternoon.
It was into the evening before the last crew left the scene, and firefighters returned the next day to carry out checks.
Although the blaze, which was confined to a cooling and packing area, is not being treated as suspicious, Fife Constabulary has launched an investigation.
There is no indication yet of the cause.
Kettle Produce said on Friday it was too early to say what impact there would be on the plant, which is the smaller of the two it has in the area and has a staff of around 250.
Although operations at the site were put on hold, it insisted it was “business as usual” and that it would continue to supply its customers, which include the UK’s supermarkets.
There was no further information from the company over the weekend.
More than 800 people are employed by Kettle Produce at Orkie Farm and Balmalcolm.
