Kirkcaldy pair banned from owning dogs after neglecting pets

A Kirkcaldy man and woman who neglected their Staffordshire bull terriers have been banned from owning dogs for three years, following a Scottish SPCA investigation.
Carrie Reid, 28, and Joseph Brady, 37, of Valley Gardens South, were also both fined £200 when they were sentenced at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Reid and Brady had earlier pleaded guilty to failing to provide veterinary attention for their dogs Opal, Poppy and Tyson who were all suffering from skin conditions.
Scottish SPCA chief inspector John Chisholm said Opal had the most severe skin complaint, with significant areas of hair loss and skin that was red and inflamed over almost her entire body.
Poppy was bleeding and had some areas of hair loss. Tyson had thinning hair on his back, underside and hind legs.
“All three dogs were scratching in an attempt to gain some relief from the pain and discomfort caused by their skin conditions,” Mr Chisholm said.
“We are pleased Reid and Brady have received a ban and hope they will fully consider their ability to care for any more dogs in the future.”
The dogs all made full recoveries and have since found new homes.
