Campaigners for a rail link to St Andrews were boosted this week by a generous donation to help fund an engineering feasibility study.
A total of £4700 is needed to progress the study, to be conducted by Corus Railway Infrastructure Services, and already £2000 has been pledged by Rail Future Scotland and the local community council.
Now a further £500 donation has come from Rail Future, an independent organisation campaigning for better rail services.
That, combined with the Scottish branch’s grant of £1500, means supporting organisations have provided almost half of the cost.
Jane Ann Liston the convener of StARLink (St Andrews Rail Link) which has campaigned for a rail line to the Fife town for over two decades said she is confident the study will go ahead.
It is intended that part of the feasibility study will look at the route options so that costs and benefits can be worked out.
