SNP MSP for Central Fife Tricia Marwick accused Labour MP Lindsay Roy of hypocrisy over his U-turn on fuel prices.
Mrs Marwick hit out after Mr Roy wrote to Chancellor George Osborne calling for the urgent establishment of a fuel duty regulator, which would see fuel duty cut when oil prices increased.
In 2009, Mr Roy voted against SNP amendments to the Labour budget that would have seen a regulator introduced but has since changed his mind on the issue, despite Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray not backing The Courier’s call for a mechanism to stabilise fuel prices.
“The SNP has consistently backed fair fuel prices and my SNP colleagues in Westminster have regularly tried to introduce a fuel stabiliser only to be voted down by Labour every time,” Mrs Marwick said.
“It is clear today that Labour’s Scottish leader would not introduce a fuel stabiliser and that Labour MPs are saying one thing to the press and doing another in parliament.”
Mr Roy said, “Oil prices have increased again, hence my support for a fuel price regulator.
“This is a judgment call I’ve made in light of circumstances and it is not hypocrisy.”
