A 40-year-old motorcyclist has died after he came off his bike on the A912 Falkland-Strathmiglo road in Fife.
He was taken to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline but succumbed to his injuries early on Sunday morning.
He was travelling towards Falkland shortly before 6pm on Saturday. No other vehicles were involved. The road was closed while officers investigated.
A police spokesman said, “Any person who may have witnessed the incident or been in the area at the time is asked to contact the force on 0845 600 5702.”
The man would not be named until next of kin had been contacted.
The same stretch of road was the scene of a collision involving two cars last August.
Two children and three adults escaped serious injury after the crash, which happened near Easter Cash Farm.
Earlier this year, Fife police launched a campaign to improve safety on country routes in anticipation of an increased number of bikers taking to the roads during the summer.
In 2010, two motorcyclists lost their lives on Fife’s roads network. Both tragedies happened in October.
A 22-year-old north-east Fife man, who had recently passed his test, was killed in a collision with a transit van near Glenrothes.
An 18-year-old from Stirlingshire died in a head-on collision with a car on the B942 Colinsburgh to Pittenweem road.
