Fears are growing for the safety of a Cowdenbeath man missing from his home since Friday morning.
Despite a major air and ground search over the weekend, no trace has been found of Andrew Marshall who disappeared after taking his dog for a walk.
The search initially centred on the north and west of Cowdenbeath. However, it has now been widened to the Dunfermline area after police received a report of a potential sighting of Mr Marshall on Saturday in Whitefield Road on the outskirts of town.
His family are ”extremely concerned” for the missing 50-year-old as police said the potential sighting of him seemed to suggest he was ”confused”.
Mr Marshall was last seen at 9am on Friday when he left home to take his white Staffordshire terrier for a walk. It is believed he no longer has his pet with him.
An extensive search was undertaken that night using the Search and Rescue Dog Association and an RAF Search and Rescue helicopter which was seen hovering in the skies above west Fife into the late hours of Friday.
The search resumed on Saturday morning and concentrated on an area to the north of Cowdenbeath, towards the neighbouring village of Hill of Beath and around Cuddyhouse Road which runs from the town through acres of rural land towards Kingseat.
On Saturday the extensive search of open ground involved police search officers, SARDA, Tayside and Ochil Mountain Rescue Teams and Skywatch Civil Air Patrol.
By Sunday a new development saw the hunt extended towards Dunfermline. Officers were investigating a possible sighting of the missing man on Saturday evening on Whitefield Road, the road which links Kingseat Road with Halbeath Road.
Police are keen to trace a man who was walking in the area and who may have spoken to Mr Marshall, who appeared to be looking for his dog.
A Fife police spokesman said: ”Given the freezing temperatures overnight there is considerable concern for Andrew’s well-being.”
Police are appealing for residents in Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline, Townhill and Kingseat and in the rural areas around his home town to check their gardens and outbuildings in case he has taken shelter overnight.
An appeal for information on his whereabouts has also been posted on a missing persons website.
Police described Mr Marshall as being of a slim build and 5ft 3in tall. He has short brown, greying hair and wears glasses.
When he was last seen he was wearing a blue raincoat, jeans and dark wellington boots.
Fife Constabulary is appealing to anyone who may have information as to Mr Marshall’s present whereabouts or possible sightings of him to contact them on 08456 005702.
