The search for a missing Cowdenbeath man seems to have reached a tragic conclusion with the discovery of a body in woodland near Kingseat.

While formal identification has still to be carried out, the discovery seems to realise the worst fears for Cowdenbeath postal worker Andrew Marshall, who has been missing from his home since Friday morning.

The discovery was thought to have been made by some of the teams of locals who had embarked on tireless searches for Mr Marshall in the last three days.

Police confirmed they had recovered the body of a man near Cowdenbeath on Monday. A spokesman said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal in Dunfermline. He added that there might now be a post-mortem examination.

”Formal identification will need to take place before any further comment will be made by Fife Constabulary,” he added.

An air and ground search swung into action as it was revealed Mr Marshall had not been seen since he left his home to take the family pet, a white Staffordshire terrier, for a walk at 9am on Friday.

Cowdenbeath MSP Helen Eadie said: ”This is dreadful news and the whole community came together hopeful of a better outcome. I’m sure everyone’s thoughts are with the family at this time.”

There is still no news on the whereabouts of Mr Marshall’s dog.
