A motorist has been caught driving at an eye-watering 149mph on the A92 in Fife.
The 46-year-old was seen motoring along the dual carriageway near Kirkcaldy in an E-class Mercedes-Benz at around 11pm on Wednesday.
Having been clocked at more than twice the national speed limit, the man is set to be reported to the procurator fiscal.
Head of road policing Chief Inspector David McCulloch said: ”Traffic officers were carrying out speed checks on the A92 when they recorded a car being driven at one of the fastest speeds I have ever come across.
”The driver was stopped in Kirkcaldy and, due to the very high speed, will be reported for dangerous driving.
”The consequences of a tyre blow-out or other mechanical failure at this speed would have been catastrophic for the driver and also posed a serious threat to other road users and members of the public.”
In 2007, Britain’s fastest convicted speeder, Tim Brady, was jailed for 10 weeks after being caught driving a Porsche at 172mph on a rural A-road.
