Efforts to ensure a once popular Fife park will flourish again this summer have been warmly welcomed.
Kyffin Roberts, chairman of St Andrews Community Council, has praised Fife Council for seeking applications from businesses to run some of the attractions at Craigtoun Park in St Andrews from June to September.
Operators are being sought for the miniature railway and activities such as the putting and boating.
But with the park’s long-term future still uncertain, the community council is still very much focused on seeing Craigtoun thrive and hopes to set up a trust which will eventually take over the running and maintenance of the park.
”We’re delighted that the process is going ahead and this at last shows that Fife Council is prepared to bring in some attractions,” he told The Courier.
”The big picture is a long-term effort but we’ve got a number of people interested in the day-to-day running of the park and doing a few small, low cost actions that will bring people in.
”There’s tremendous enthusiasm for what we’re trying to do, but there’s no doubt it’s going to be a long difficult road.
”So long as Fife Council keep the same level of investment, then that gives us time to come up with a business plan.”
Mr Roberts added that the formation of the trust is likely to take at least a year and has not been able to put timescales on the project.
