The hunt is on for good homes after an abandoned dog found by Fife Council dog wardens gave birth to seven pups.
Jess, who is ”99.5% Labrador” according to kennel owner David Hyslop, has taken to motherhood with aplomb in a secluded maternity suite at his Whitehill kennels on the outskirts of Crossgates.
”It’s a first for us here we’ve never had a stray dog brought in which has then had pups,” he said.
The kennels have a contract with Fife Council to care for stray dogs as they hopefully await a happy reunion with their owners.
Jess, as David has called the new mum, was brought in after been found in Dunfermline on June 10.
”She started putting on weight and then on June 22 we found she wasn’t putting on weight, she was pregnant.”
And so seven pups four boys and three girls arrived into the world and now at eight weeks old are all doing well.
As for Jess, no-one has come forward to report a missing dog. She wasn’t wearing a collar or tag and wasn’t microchipped.
The kennel staff are sure they will find good homes easily for the pups and are also looking for a dog lover to offer Jess a new and permanent loving home.
