Progress in £33 million plan for new Auchmuty High School

Plans for a £33 million secondary school for Glenrothes are well under way.
Fife Council says a planning permission application for a new Auchmuty High School should be submitted before the end of the month.
It would replace buildings from the 1950s and 1970s, considered no longer suitable for delivering a modern curriculum.
Auchmuty High is said to be in poor condition, inflexible in configuration and difficult to renovate to current standards. The replacement building would be built on the playing fields. New fields would be laid on the site of the current school after its demolition.
The project is part of Fife Council’s Building Fife’s Future programme and is part funded by the Scottish Futures Trust.
Building work is due to begin next year and the school should open in late 2014 or early 2015.
The proposed designs will go on show at information sessions in Glenrothes on Thursday. They will run from 11.30am to 5.30pm in the Kingdom Centre, and from 6.15 to 8.15pm in Auchmuty High.
Architects from Fife Council’s design team will be on hand to explain the proposals and answer any questions.
