A Dunfermline woman has been conned into parting with several thousand pounds by bogus workmen.
Detectives are investigating what was described as “a heartless crime” where the woman fell victim to unscrupulous conmen. They pointed out work they claimed was needed and took a cash deposit.
The first visit on Wednesday, February 2, was by a single ‘workman’. Detective Sergeant Paul Dick said, “He asked for cash payment for the work and returned to her home in Scotland Drive on Friday, February 4, when along with an accomplice, they have received further payment.
“Both men then left the scene, pocketing the cash without carrying out any work.”
Mr Dick said it was believed the men were using a vehicle which they had parked in a nearby street. He added that they would also have turned up on other doorsteps.
The man who turned up on both occasions and took the money was described as white, in his 40s, about 6ft 2in and slim, with dark hair and dark clothing.
The man who joined him on Friday, February 4, is described as also being white, between 20 and 30, 6ft 2ins, large build, short fair hair, wearing jeans and possibly a fluorescent jacket.
If anyone recognises the description of either man or was also approached, they should call Fife Police on 0845 600 5702 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
