A devastating crash in Fife has claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman.

Police have appealed for witnesses following the two-vehicle smash, on the B921 between Cardenden and Kinglassie at around 3.40pm on Saturday.

The Courier understands the victim was driving an Orange Fiat car that was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van.

Paramedics assisted, but she was declared dead at the scene. It is not yet clear whether she lived locally.

The road remained closed throughout Saturday night and much of yesterday as debris was cleared from the scene.

Accident investigators also carried out a meticulous examination of the site.

Numerous floral tributes have been placed at the scene.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed details of the tragedy.Ambulances”We received a 999 call at 15.39 and dispatched two ambulances along with a rapid response unit,” he said. “On arrival we found a female in her 20s in cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The spokesman said no one else was injured as a result of the crash.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Claire Baker said yesterday, “It is extremely upsetting to hear of such an awful tragedy. My heart goes out to her family and friends. Any death on our roads is a tragedy and to hear of somebody so young dying is just terrible.

“Too many young people are killed as a result of road accidents and this is another tragedy.”

Glenrothes West and Kinglassie councillor Betty Campbell described news of the death as “a terrible shock.”

“To hear of a life being lost in tragic circumstances such as this is just appalling,” she said. “This accident will come as a terrible shock to everybody.”

The victim’s name will not be released until next of kin have been informed.
