Raith Rovers fans have been given the chance to line up alongside some of the club’s all-time greats after a benefit match was organised to raise cash for a worthy cause.
Raith Rovers Former Players Association has arranged the fixture in honour of ex-Raith defender Ronnie Coyle, who has been battling the devastating effects of leukaemia for the last two years.
The match which will be played at Stark’s Park in Kirkcaldy on Sunday, March 27 will see Raith’s historic 1994 Coca-Cola Cup-winning squad take on their Celtic counterparts in what will effectively be a re-run of that memorable final. All proceeds will go towards the Ronnie Coyle Benefit Fund.
All of the 1994 Raith squad have agreed to take part, including the likes of Craig Brewster, Peter Hetherston and Jock McStay, and they will be managed by Jimmy Nicholl, while former Raith and Celtic legend Frank Connor will take charge of the visitors for the day.
To raise even more money for the cause, fans are being asked to submit bids at www.raithroversfc.com, which could see them be a part of the Raith squad.
The highest bidder will be guaranteed the last 15 minutes of the game and be included in the official team photo, as well as taking home a signed shirt.
Meanwhile, on the same evening a benefit dinner is due to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel in Glenrothes and will be attended by players from the match with some very special guest speakers.
Details of ticket sales for the Coca-Cola Cup final re-run are expected to be announced in due course.
