Dunfermline fans hoping to see their beloved club lift the First Division trophy following Saturday’s clash with fierce rivals Falkirk are being urged to behave themselves.
Police issued a warning to those planning a promotion party, asking them not to run on to the pitch after the final whistle. They warned that any invasion of the playing surface could lead to the trophy presentation being cancelled.
The Pars secured their spot in next season’s Premier League with a 2-0 victory away to Morton last weekend. However, this Saturday’s match at East End Park gives the home fans their first opportunity to toast the success.
The fact that the trophy is to be presented after a game against fierce rivals Falkirk is sure to represent something of a bonus for many Dunfermline fans, and a statement released by police called on all supporters to act in a way befitting a club destined for the top table of Scottish football.
“Fife Constabulary is confident that the good nature of fans attending Dunfermline Athletic football games recently will continue, particularly with another all ticket home game due to be played at East End Park against Falkirk this Saturday.
“With the possibility of the first division trophy being presented to Dunfermline after the game, we are keen to stress the need for fans to act responsibly. Their behaviour must reflect well on a club destined for the Scottish Premier League next season.”
Dunfermline chief inspector Bob Baker will be match commander for Saturday’s game. He said he was sure the crowd would be “large and good natured” but urged fans not to get carried away with all the excitement.
Mr Baker added, “I would ask people leave time to park appropriately, car share and use public transport.
“I am aware that the club is hoping to have the trophy presented at the conclusion of the match but those attending should be aware that this will not be possible if spectators invade the pitch.
“I know fans will be excited and there will be an air of anticipation but I would ask that fans do not run on to the pitch and allow all to enjoy the spectacle of the trophy being presented.”
