Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is to return to Dunfermline this summer.
The Mary Leishman Foundation, working with the Alhambra Theatre, has organised a gala evening with the footballing legend on August 11.
Sir Alex will appear in conversation with a host of big names from across the world of football. He will be joined by many of those who knew him during his time at East End Park as a player in the famous Dunfermline teams of the 60s.
He will talk about his memories from his time with the Pars and his many managerial triumphs, plotting his spectacular career from his days at Aberdeen through to today as he attempts to lead Manchester United to a Premiership and Champions League double.
Theatre manager Simon Fletcher said, “We are absolutely delighted that Sir Alex Ferguson is hosting the gala evening. Sir Alex is as big a name as has ever graced the Alhambra stage, and I’m sure that football fans young and old will be enthralled to hear the great man speak about his fantastic career.”
The event will be held in aid of a charity to be chosen by the Man Utd boss and the Mary Leishman Foundation, which was established by her husband Jim, the former Pars manager and director of football, along with fellow trustees.
The foundation helps provide funding for worthwhile local causes and helps develop potential.
The Alhambra selected the foundation as its chosen charity for 2011, and is planning a series of events to raise funds and awareness.
Foundation president William Braisby said, “It is fantastic that one of the legends of world football is making an appearance on the Alhambra stage. When Mary Leishman passed away, Sir Alex called Jim to offer his condolences while on Champions League duty in Milan, which is very typical of the man.”
He added, “We very much look forward to what promises to be a wonderful evening.”
