A Glenrothes cafe worker is looking to the future despite having his musical career cut short on national television.
Gary Lambert, aka the White Wizard Punk Poet, was one of many who tried his luck on the ITV show Britain’s Got Talent only to be told by Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan that his talents were no longer required on their stage.
The act sees Gary, who spends his days serving cups of tea to residents of the town, sport a wizard’s outfit before performing songs based around the mythical characters.
Unperturbed by his rejection on national TV, and set to film a follow-up for the Saturday night show’s sister programme Back To The Day Job, Gary is hoping his 15 minutes of fame may not be over.
He said, “I lasted 24 seconds but I didn’t really mind to be honest.
“When I watched it back they obviously quite liked it as I could see them smiling a little bit.”A bit psychic””It started out about eight or 10 years ago when I found out I was a bit psychic.
“A lot of people didn’t believe me and it was a bit strange to get used to at first.
“It was about the time that the Harry Potter thing was really popular and so I decided to develop a character around that.”
Since the incarnation of his alter ego, Mr Lambert has performed gigs at local venues and already has a concert lined up on the back of his exposure on Britain’s Got Talent.
Word of his unique act appears to be spreading and he has already gathered a loyal band of followers on social networking sites MySpace and YouTube.
Though admitting that headlining T in the Park may be some way off yet, Gary is hoping to carry on with his music career and enjoy the rollercoaster ride that appearing in the national limelight has granted him.
He added, “I’ve not had too much reaction so far but I was given a request by one girl who wanted a CD so she could review it on the internet.
“The act started out as a laugh but we’ll just have to see what happens. I hope I can take it further a bit.”
