Fighter jets have touched down on Fife tarmac again after being temporarily stationed on the Moray coast.
RAF Leuchars Tornado F3 squadron 111 was on a bolthole detachment at RAF Lossiemouth while runway repairs were made.
A Leuchars spokesman said the station now has one of the best runways in the RAF, which would be fit for the next 25 years.
Problems with flooding on the main runway arose despite a £22 million restoration two and a half years ago.
Station commander Air Commodore Harry Atkinson said, “The runway work is one element of a significant package of infrastructure projects which are ongoing in preparation for the arrival of the first Typhoon squadron at RAF Leuchars in the autumn.
“The net result will be to ensure that RAF Leuchars is capable of discharging its operational and training roles well into the future.”
