Fife Police have confirmed that a team of officers from Lothian and Borders will conduct the independent investigation into the tragedy. The incident unfolded at the police station at around 7pm on Sunday but news of the death only emerged on Monday. A 31-year-old man was found lying unconscious in one of the cells at the Holyrood Place station. Medical help was immediately sought, a spokesman for the force added. The man was taken to the town’s Queen Margaret Hospital but was pronounced dead soon after arriving there. His next of kin have been informed. Officers from Lothian and Borders police will submit a report to the procurator fiscal at Dunfermline and the end of their investigation.
