Crews fight overnight battle to contain blaze at former Sailors Rest in Rosyth
ByThe Courier Reporter
Fire crews remain in Rosyth this morning after a blaze broke out at a derelict building last night.
Smoke was sighted from the old Sailors Rest on Ferrytoll Road shortly after 8.30pm.
Five crews were sent to the scene, two from Dunfermline, two from Lochgelly and one additional appliance from Burntisland.
Water jets, ground monitors and breathing apparatus were all used by fire officers, with the flames understood to have taken a hold of most of the building.
While the blaze has now been extinguished, two crews remain on site this morning in an effort to cool the building.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The building once served as a hostel for sailors from the nearby port but has lain empty for years.
