A vast segment of an aircraft carrier has started its journey to Rosyth.
The massive section of HMS Prince of Wales’ hull set off from BAE Systems in Glasgow on a 600-mile journey to Rosyth, where final assembly of the ship for the Royal Navy will take place.
It will be put together in the dry dock vacated by its sister ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, which was floated successfully only days after it was christened by the Queen.
The 8,000-tonne section, known as Lower Block 03, weighs more than an entire Type 45 destroyer.
The block, transported by sea-going barge, is scheduled to arrive in Rosyth this Saturday where work is under way to prepare the dock.
