A sheriff said a man banned from driving for life had racked up so many convictions that he got “bored” counting them.
Sheriff Ian Abercrombie warned John Copeland, 38, that if he breaks his ban once more he could face up to five years in jail.
Copeland was given a lifetime driving disqualification in 2001, but Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard he had not stopped him getting behind the wheel.
He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without adequate insurance on Station Road, Cardenden, on September 28.
Sheriff Abercrombie told him: “Your record is appalling for this matter. I haven’t counted the amount (of offences) because I got so bored doing it.”
He placed Copeland, of Kirkcaldy, on a curfew between 7pm and 6am and told him: “Any reoffending or any breach of the curfew or any other court order and you will be jailed for a year.”
Defence agent Gwen Haggerty asked that Copeland be given the opportunity to prove himself, having been remanded in custody for four weeks.
Sheriff Abercrombie said: “Unless he gets his life together he has no hope of getting this life ban reversed.”
He added: “This is a matter which might appear on indictment sooner or later. Next time he would be looking at something like five years.”
He added: “He leaves this building knowing what he’s got to do and if there are any breaches of these matters it’s goodnight Vienna as far as he’s concerned.”
Sentence was deferred until November 11 for a social work report.
