A cleaner at St Andrews University is to be honoured alongside an award-winning theatre set designer and a former principal of the Royal Conservatoire.
Catherine Robertson, 72, will receive the University Medal along with the latest recipients of honorary degrees from the institution next month.
It will be the first time that a member of the university’s estates team has received such an honour, marking her retirement from university life after starting in 1976.
Helen Mackie, assistant director of estates at the university, said: “I am delighted that Cathie is the firs member of estates to receive the University Medal as it recognises the work and dedication that is provided by a number of ‘unsung heroes’ within our team.
“She took great pride in doing a good job and is held in high regard by her former colleagues, line managers and students alike and will be missed in the unit by us all.”
Born and raised in Kingsbarns, Cathie attended St Andrews Burgh School.
She lives in Crail with her husband, Bill, and this year they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Also receiving accolades next month are John Carnochan, co-founder of Scotland’s Violence Reduction Unit, and Professor Anne Carson, poet and translator.
They will join theatre set designer and St Andrean Bunny Christie as well as Professor John Wallace, former head of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
