A Dunfermline man who sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub has been jailed.
Intars Kuzmins, 20, of the James Bank Hostel, admitted sexually assaulting the woman in the Harlem club, Bruce Street, by seizing her by the body, placing his clothed body against her and repeatedly rubbing his clothed private member against her on August 24 2013.
He also admitted resisting, obstructing or hindering two police officers at Dunfermline Police Station on the same day and struggling violently with them.
Kuzmins further admitted breaching the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Act on July 24 this year and trying to pervert the course of justice by giving a false address to police.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday, depute fiscal Kyrsten Buist said after being placed on the sex offenders register Kuzmins found accommodation at the James Bank Hostel but told police his address was in William Street.
When that information was found to be false, police inquiries took place as far off as St Albans, Hertfordshire, trying to track him down until he was found to be in the Dunfermline hostel.
Defence solicitor Gwen Haggerty said her client had no recollection of the nightclub incident because of the amount of alcohol he had consumed.
“After the incident he was then assaulted by the complainer’s boyfriend,” she added. “He accepts this is a serious matter and hat he finds himself in a difficult position today.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry told Kuzmins: “You have a negative attitude towards the authorities, completely disregarding requirements put on you in respect of the Sex Offenders Act.”
He jailed Kuzmins for a total of 16 months.
