Police have launched a manhunt in Tayport after someone approached a young girl in the town.
Police officers are trying to trace a man who stopped and spoke with a 12-year-old schoolgirl in the area last Thursday evening.
Detective Constable Nicola Howell stressed that while there may have been an innocent explanation for the man’s behaviour, officers are keen to trace him to rule out any other motive.
She said the girl was walking with her younger brother near to the Co-op on Nelson Street at around 6pm last Thursday evening when the man spoke to her.
He did so again a few minutes later, this time when she returned alone without her brother.
The man is between 30 to 40, medium build with short dark hair described as being gelled at the front and wearing black rimmed spectacles. He was also wearing a black jacket and dark jeans.
“We are keeping an open mind as to why he spoke to the girl the way he did and would appeal to him to contact the police and explain his actions,” she said.
Officers have been carrying out door to door enquires in the area and reviewing CCTV footage buy anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
