An independent Fife-based childcare provider with five nurseries across Fife and Angus is to change its name after a legal row with an English company.
Busy Bee Nurseries Group has confirmed its plans after an announcement it is to open a new nursery near St Andrews.
It hopes to open in a former residential property at 70 Main Street in Strathkinness in March.
Busy Bee Nurseries managing director Jennifer Martin said: “We are all very attached to the name Busy Bees, which has served us well since 1997 but unfortunately we are going to have to change it.
“There is another nursery group called Busy Bees operating in Scotland this is a result of a large English-based company with over 200 nurseries buying over the Careshare Group of nurseries in Scotland.
“Through no fault of our own, we have found that we have been getting confused with this large corporate group and as a small independent we have been unable to contest the use of the name we did take legal advice but it would have been an extremely costly exercise to contest.”
Jennifer now plans to ask her customers to help to choose a new identity for the business.
“I am really excited to see what the parents come up with I have asked all the staff too so am hoping they can put their thinking caps on.
“I am happy to go along with a majority decision and we shall see what names come out of the pot most often there may just be one that really stands out.”
