Kirkcaldy players still waiting to kick off on new pitches

Footballers in Kirkcaldy are still awaiting a date to return to some of the town’s most popular pitches.
Players have been kicking their heels since August, after the decision was taken to resurface the three community use pitches at Kirkcaldy High School.
The move was taken on safety grounds once chunks of the synthetic surface started to lift. But Fife Council has been unable to state when the pitches will reopen to the public, though resurfacing work has been witnessed at the site.
It was originally expected that play would resume in January but the lack of clarification means the wait continues for Kirkcaldy’s amateur footballers.
Danny Lambert, 32, organises a weekly game for friends and has been forced to move the match to Glenrothes while the Kirkcaldy High pitches are out of action.
“I’m really frustrated by this,” said Danny, a supermarket worker. “We’ve been playing in Glenrothes for months now and we’re getting no clear answers as to when we can return to Kirkcaldy. I don’t know how it can be taking so long.”
