A former Fife primary school could be set for a new lease of life, if planning permission to create new housing is approved.
A planning application has been submitted to Fife Council to transform the old Burntisland Primary School into 30 affordable homes.
Comprising several buildings some of which are 137 years old the site has been dormant since a new £12.6 million primary school opened its doors in the summer.
A public consultation exercise took place this year to gauge public opinion on the redevelopment plans, with a formal proposal put forward last week.
Details state that as well as the new properties, parking provision for 48 vehicles would also be created at the Ferguson Place site.
An artist’s impression shown to The Courier suggest that there would be little change to the exterior of the building, should the plans be given the green light.
David Robertson, Fife Council’s team manager for affordable housing and regeneration, said: “Our planning application to convert the old Burntisland Primary School into affordable council housing is currently being considered by the planning authority.
“If approved, the site will provide 25 converted homes and five newbuild, three-bed townhouses, which will add to the provision of affordable housing in the area.
“Subject to planning consent, we would aim to start work on the site by November 2015.”
A decision on the planning application is expected early in the new year.
