Dunfermline’s £12 million museum could be given a name a month after work started on the building.
Councillors are being asked to back a proposal to call the new facility the Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries.
When the existing library and new building opens, it will be a fully-integrated facility including library services, public access computers, museum with displays on Dunfermline’s history, art gallery, visitor information, caf and shop.
Given the library’s history, a report before City of Dunfermline area councillors said there is a “clear desire” to ensure the title Carnegie Library is not lost.
Responsibility for giving a name to the building lies with the committee.
According to a report by cultural partnerships and events strategy manager Linda Temple, members have already engaged with the local community and it was agreed, in consultation with chairwoman Helen Law, to present a name that captures the wide range of cultural services to be delivered from a single building while still celebrating the rich Carnegie heritage.
