The body of a missing pensioner was found in a residential Kirkcaldy street this morning after concerns were raised about the safety of a man in the area.
The pensioner, named locally as 83-year-old local man John Philbin, had been missing since mid-afternoon on Wednesday and was reported missing in the evening.
Police officers carried out local enquiries to find him and his body was discovered on Thursday morning.
It’s understood Mr Philbin had health issues.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said:“Police in Kirkcaldy attended an address on Newtownmore Drive at 9am this morning on Thursday January 8 following concerns for the safety of a man on the premises.
“Officers attended and found a local man in his 80s deceased.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a post-mortem will take place in due course. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Residents were left wondering what was going on after police and fire service personnel attended in the Chapel Level area.
One resident of the street said: “My street has been on watch all morning. Two fire engines and four police vans all blue lights. What’s going on?”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two fire crews had attended from Kirkcaldy but referred all enquiries to Police Scotland.
