Junction shuts as bodies are exhumed from graves at Kirkcaldy church
ByLeeza Clark
As work gets under way to exhume bodies from a Kirkcaldy graveyard, the public is being warned of road diversions.
Fife Council has been given permission to exhume bodies from Abbotshall Church Cemetery.
The delicate work has to be carried out to enable a dangerous wall at risk of collapse to be rebuilt.
Work on the wall, which is leaning significantly, is now seen to be urgently needed.
It will be taken down to pavement level and rebuilt.
During the 10-week project, human remains and memorials will be temporarily removed.
When the work is complete the bodies will be replaced in their original resting places.
Two-way temporary traffic signals will operate on Abbotshall Road at the churchyard, while the road will be closed on Forth Avenue from the junction with Abbotshall Road to the industrial estate.
Access for residents will be maintained via the north side of Forth Avenue. Diversions will be along Whyte Melville Street.
