An Aberdour man who won £900,000 at the Pokerstars European Poker Tour Main Event in London has completed a famous double by winning the Champion of Champions.
Only a day after winning the EPT London main event after a five-hour duel, David Vamplew triumphed over eight other UKIPT winners.
The winner-takes-all event took place at the Metropole Hilton in London and put Vamplew (23) up against champions from the tour’s first season in a sit and go contest.
The prize was a seat at every stop in Season 2, inc-luding the Grand Final at EPT London next year.
Eventually, the table played down to a heads-up battle against UKIPT Brighton winner Jamie Burland.
The 23-year-old maths graduate and former Inver-keithing High School pupil described winning his second tournament over just a few days as “the icing on the cake.”
Amazingly, David only started playing live tournaments this year but still managed a 106th place finish at the World Series of Poker $2500 No Limit Hold’em event in July, winning $6071.
A few months down the line and he is currently up $1,414,478 and the highest earning Scottish poker player.
David began playing poker only five years ago with fellow students and plans to invest some of his money in buying a flat in Edinburgh, where he lives and is looking ahead to future tournaments.
David has been inundated with messages of congratulations from his friends and has the backing of proud father Peter, who works for Shell and mother Jane, a support worker.
He is also keeping his diary free for the biggest poker tournament in the world, to take place in June and July in Las Vegas.
It’s a $6000 buy-in for the world series and around 7000 people take part, with winners taking home $8 or $9 million dollars.
David will embark on his year-long UKIPT freeroll beginning in Galway, Ireland, on December 2.
