A Colinsburgh man who had 70 indecent images of children on his computer escaped a jail sentence after claiming he had not viewed any of them.
Jason Simpson (24) admitted at Cupar Sheriff Court to being in possession of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children at his home address between May 2 2010 and October 21 2010.
The court heard that four of the images were at the top of the five-point scale used to grade the severity of child abuse, while 43 were at level four.
Simpson’s defence solicitor said Simpson did not download or view the material but ”was aware they were there.”
Simpson was placed on a three-year probation order and was ordered to carry out 270 hours of community service.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for three years.
