Eight illegal immigrants will be removed from the country after being discovered during raids on Fife takeaways.
And the business owner could be facing a fine of £160,000.
The men, aged from 24 to 37, were caught during Home Office immigration action in central Fife.
Officers simultaneously raided three separate K and K Fish Bar takeaways, on Methil’s Methil Brae, Templehall Avenue in Kirkcaldy and Leslie High Street, at 6pm on Thursday.
They spoke to staff to establish whether they had the right to be living and working in the UK and as a result eight Indian men were arrested for various immigration offences.
Two men, aged 29 and 37, were arrested in Kirkcaldy, two 24-year-olds were arrested in Methil with the remaining men, aged 23, 24, 28 and 32, arrested in Leslie.
All eight have been detained while steps are taken to remove them from the country.
The business owner is likely to be issued with a notice warning that he could be fined up to £20,000 for each illegal worker arrested unless he can demonstrate that he carried out checks to see if they had appropriate right-to-work documents.
HM Revenue and Customs accompanied immigration officers on the visits and their inquiries are continuing.
Stephen Roarty, from Home Office Immigration Enforcement, said: “Illegal working undercuts honest employers, defrauds the public purse and cheats legitimate job hunters out of employment opportunities.
“We are happy to work with employers to explain the simple checks that need to be carried out to establish a person’s right to work in the UK.
“The message to those who choose to ignore the rules is clear.
“We will find you and you will face a heavy financial penalty,” warned Mr Roarty.
Mr Roarty asked anyone with specific and detailed information about suspected illegal working to get in touch.
