Plans to turn a historic church into a corner shop have been rejected on road safety grounds.
Kirkcaldy businessman Shahzad Aslam had applied for planning permission to transform part of the disused United Free Church on Normand Road, Dysart, into a convenience store.
The Gothic-style church was built in 1867 with seating for 650 worshippers and is a listed building but has been neglected for many years and is in poor condition.
Fife Council received 61 letters of objection to the proposal, along with a petition, mainly concerning traffic congestion and parking problems on the busy road outside the church.
Speaking at the central Fife planning committee, Councillor Kay Carrington said: “That road is too fast, there is not enough room to park, the school is just up the road and the site is not conducive for traffic.”
