The charity planning to construct a visitor centre at the West Sands in St Andrews has said it is “reassured” by the public’s response to the proposals.
Fife Coast and Countryside Trust chief executive Amanda McFarlane said she was encouraged by feedback from its consultation, which allowed the public to view many details of the project for the first time.
She said: “Many people have felt for a long time that such an iconic attraction deserves a facility which not only welcomes and caters for the thousands of visitors which the West Sands receives every year but also helps them understand the natural environment.
“We were very reassured by the enthusiastic response we have received from the local community and visitors. People were very interested in the proposed improvements and asked lots of questions.”
Funding for the proposed centre, which would include a cafe, shop and exhibition and meeting rooms, is still being sought.
