An RAF Leuchars serviceman who has raised more than £200,000 for terminally ill and disadvantaged children was presented with a special lifetime achievement prize at the Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards.
Corporal David Adam, 46, who was awarded the MBE in 2008, had the honour of raising the Union flag during the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
He also carried the Queen’s Baton through Fife ahead of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games this summer.
On Friday, in front of an audience of around 300 special guests, he was presented with Kingdom FM’s top Local Hero Award to honour his lifelong contribution to charity.
The glitzy bash at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes celebrated the inspirational work and contributions individuals, schools and voluntary organisations have made to Fife.
The event also acknowledged the “tremendous support” given by the event’s seven main sponsors, including The Courier.
Winners included Kirkcaldy High School’s pioneering sexual health and pregnancy prevention programme which recently won the Cosla Excellence Award.
There were also prizes for an 11-year-old girl who looks after her disabled brother and a brave five-year-old, Kian Rafferty who, despite a rare condition, strives to live a normal life.
Other winners included the best visitor attraction and sportsperson of the year.
