There were some bittersweet moments as the committee of Cowdenbeath Horticultural Society put the finishing touches to this weekend’s annual show.
The theme this year is the show must go on, in memory of its late chairman George Bird, who died late last year while holidaying in Spain.
The new chairman, George’s son Colin, said: “The centrepiece and this year’s theme the show must go on are dedicated to the memory of our leader.”
The centrepiece and main display will consist of a collage from previous years’ themes.
Six local primaries and nurseries have made a commitment to entering the show and after the success of last year’s charity knit, it will continue this year.
Main organiser Betty Young said this year cardigans knitted will be donated to the Mambilima Mission in Zambia and the maternity unit in Kirkcaldy.
It is hoped last year’s total of 183 will be beaten. With many donations already in from keen knitters, the society is on target.
“People have already been very generous. It’s great that so many people are doing well, by giving back through their donations.”
The George Bird Flower Show will run from 2-5pm on Saturday and from 1-4pm on Sunday in the Trinity Church, Sinclair Drive, Cowdenbeath.
